Jewish Heritage Essay Contest

The Association of Orthodox Jewish Teachers in cooperation with the Department of Education of the City of New York sponsors an annual Jewish Heritage Essay Contest during Jewish Heritage Week. The purpose of the contest is to acquaint public school students with Jewish history, customs and traditions, and to help foster a deeper understanding of Jewish culture. Students of all ethnic and religious backgrounds, from both mainstream and special education classes, are eligible to participate. Essay titles and guidelines are sent to all superintendents and to elementary, junior high, and high school principals. All participants receive a Certificate of Merit. The winners, their parents, their principals, and their teachers, are invited to a special ceremony during the month of May.

This year the Awards Ceremony was held on May 14th at Stuyvesant High School. The program was enhanced with a musical performance by Stuyvesant High School musical students. We thank Ms. Jie Zhang for allowing AOJT to hold our Awards Ceremony at her school and Mr. Michael Waxman for arranging the Ceremony.

We thank all teachers, assistant principals, principals, and superintendents for their cooperation and support with this vital project.
